Moving. A Big Change

Yesterday I learned that my Dad's job is going to take us back to Michigan. We lived there for 6 years when I was younger, so we already know a lot of people there. The hardest part of moving for me is going to be leaving my friends. I have the absolute best friends in the world and never wanted to leave them!
Even though I am leaving behind so many great things (and people), I'm looking forward to this new chapter in my life and wonderful experience! I'm going to be finishing up my school year, and then we're moving around July! It's all happening so quickly! If you think about it, we'll have about 2.5 months of "down time" then we have to and start house hunting (14 hours away), come back here to pack, then we're on our way.
I don't think I've cried harder then I did yesterday after learning the news that we were moving. At first, I didn't know how to take it, then when the news hit me full force I just lost it. Now after calming down I've been leaning on scripture to keep me above the water. I know there is a reason that God is moving us, so I just have to try and stay as positive as possible.
My friend suggested that I do a blog on what my life was like in MI, but I have a feeling it would be biased by now. So, I want to take a moment and thank her for being with me these past 2 years especially. You've helped me grow to be a better person and you've always been there for me! Even though we won't be able to see each other every day, I want you to know I'll always be there for you! You're the best :)
As I take on this new journey, I give it all to God. I love you all! Romans 12:12

Caring, When No One Else Has the Chance

Caring is something that is often very difficult to do. In our society we are brought up to think that looking after ourselves first is the most important thing we can do, and unfortunately is what most of us end up doing.
When you look at someone, we don't often see a human being. We see a mother, father, siblings, relatives,  friends, or strangers. We don't see people that can have their feelings hurt or day or sometimes even their lives shattered by just one rude comment or look.
As people, we have the choice to listen to what people are saying and do something about their problems or worries, or we can just keep walking and keep being concerned about ourselves. Sadly, we don't have the "reflex" to think about others before ourselves, we always say, "Am I okay? Do I have what I need?" I strongly believe in forgetting about yourself every once in awhile and just looking at others around you and asking yourself if they are okay and if they have what they need.
There have been many times when I look at someone and you can just tell they need some encouragement. For example, when you are grocery shopping and you see a stranger that looks like they haven't had the best day, just give them a warm smile and a simple, "Hi, how are you doing today?" That honestly has made my day many times and I promise you it will make theirs.
Caring for others is not always easy, I know when a parent is sick and you just want to relax after a long day then they ask for something, it can be so easy to just blow up and yell at them. This may sound elementary, but it's important: you've gotta think before you say or do. When you are about ready to blow up just say you yourself, "They don't mean to be sick." or, more importantly, "What would I want if I was sick?" Of course, caring doesn't just pertain to saying hi to a stranger or taking care of people when they are sick. It's also just remembering to do those random acts of kindness.
So, the next time you encounter a moment where you think you could do something for someone else that won't take but a few minutes or even moments out of your day, do it. It won't mean hardly anything to you, but it will mean everything to the person you are doing it for.

Destiny; What Does it Mean?

Destiny; it's definition is simple: a predetermined course of events. Destiny is something I often find myself thinking about, but I always find myself "lost in translation". Once in awhile I even feel like Ziva trying to understand why fish would be in a barrel, in a matter of speaking. It's something that really takes awhile to wrap your mind around. Your first train of thought would be, "Destiny. Okay...what's so interesting about that?" I find it interesting because it's not something 'earthly' or 'worldly', it's something is set even before you are born. It's that one thing that can't be changed or challenged.
I often come back to the voice-over Sean Murray did at the end of "Endgame" where he reads:

  • Anyone can achieve their fullest potential, who we are might be predetermined, but the path we follow is always of our own choosing. We should never allow our fears or the expectations of others to set the frontiers of our destiny. Your destiny can't be changed but, it can be challenged. Every man is born as many men and dies as a single one.
This quote has always been extremely influential in my life and very encouraging to me! If you delve even deeper into the realm of destiny you realize that everyone has their own, individual one. Just think about that. All 7 billion of us humans have their own unique destiny. Something we all have just for ourselves. I remember reading a passage in my history book that said: "You can take all of my belongings, friends, and family, but you can never take my faith or soul." Having that feeling that something is yours, that no one will ever be able to take something away, especially something so important, is an amazing feeling!
Ultimately, you may not know what your destiny is yet, but you have the comfort that something knows where you are going and "has your back".

The Superbowl XXXXVII, a Recap

What a game last night! You've got the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens battling it out for the biggest title in football, the bragging rights of winning the Superbowl! Personally, I wanted the Ravens to win, mostly because of where Tony DiNozzo used to work, (if you don't know what I'm referencing to, I suggest going to watch all 9 seasons of NCIS ASAP!) As well as it being Ray Lewis' last game ever, I would have been sad for him losing the very last game he'd ever play professionally.
For the first half of the game, the Ravens were crushing the 49ers, it was 14-3 then rose to 21-3. At that point, I was very sure this game was over... Until the lights went off. That completely changed the game. It was as if the lights going off was some kind of strengthening and empowering moment for the 49ers. It was the strangest thing.
Right off the bat we've got a touchdown, then another for the 49ers. Once I saw that, I wasn't so convinced my Ravens were going to get the title. But, in the final minutes of the game the Ravens stepped it up and won! My favorite celebratory moment they showed was a player doing confetti angels on the field, that really portrayed just how excited they were. That moment definitely brought a smile to my face.
Now that you've got the big picture, let's go into what really won this game. First you've got the fake field goal attempt, the Ravens line up to go for the field goal, then much to my surprise (and to the 49ers surprise) go in and try for a touchdown. Unfortunately they end up just a yard short, but that was one heck of a try!
When I'm sitting all high and mighty on our couch, just waiting to see how much further my Ravens can dig the 49ers into the ground, they give an amazing 4 minutes to their fans by scoring 17 points in that short period of time, that's got to be a record...right?
You didn't think I'd forget the most amazing play of the night did you? You've got a kickoff runback touchdown, 109 yards in 11 seconds. Now THAT is a record! Amazing! This game was full of surprises, and what an end to Ray Lewis' career! It was definitely a game to remember!
